New family of belt conveyors
At Haarup we started developing a new family of belt conveyors
in 2024
The frame construction was primarily made of laser cut steel plates that were bent and welded or bolted together.
In 2025 we began using low emissions steel plates.
These low emissions steel plates are made from recycled scrap iron and produced in an electric arc furnace. The electricity for producing these plates comes from renewable sources.
Producing conventional steel in an old-school blast furnace requires a lot of fossil fuel energy for heating the steel to approx. 1,600 degrees Celsius and a lot of coking coal to extract the oxygen from the iron ore. Both processes emit a lot of CO2.

On average, to produce 1 ton of steel approx. 2,000 kg CO2 is emitted, but with low emission steel less than 500 kg CO2 is emitted during production meaning a reduction of about 75%
We can do better.
At Haarup we are a fossil free partner of the Swedish steel producer, SSAB. From 2028 we will start using fossil free steel in the production of our equipment.
Fossil free steel emits only 25 kg CO2 during production of 1,000 kg steel. The steel is produced with hydrogen (made from water and using renewable electricity) and an electrical arch furnace.
